Wimberley Film Festival

June 9 @ 5:30 pm - 11:00 pm

The Wimberley Film Festival, a new documentary and experimental film festival, is set to make its debut on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the picturesque Blue Hole Park on Cypress Creek in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. This one day event, sponsored by the Watershed Association, Netta Lou Creative, Rough House Brewing, and Rambler, promises to be a celebration of Nature, Art, and Community.

The festival will feature a diverse selection of Texas made short films, a live music performance by Jonny Capri, and local vendors. Expect a day filled with entertainment, and music starting at 6:00 PM. David Baker, Founder and Executive Director of the Watershed Association will speak on the importance of preserving our water and the ongoing efforts to protect the unique ecosystems of the Texas Hill Country.

The feature of the festival will be the screening of the multi-award-winning feature film, “Yakona,” directed by Anlo Sepulveda and Paul Collins. The film, whose title means “Water Rising” in the language of the indigenous people of the San Marcos River, takes viewers on a mesmerizing journey through time, exploring the relationship between the natural world and humanity along the crystal clear waters of the San Marcos River and its headwaters at Spring Lake. Directors Anlo Sepulveda and Paul Collins will be present to share their insights and reflections on the making of this remarkable film.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Watershed Association, an organization dedicated to ensuring a future with clean, plentiful water and a healthy ecosystem, which are essential to the culture and economy of Central Texas. The event is held in partnership with the City of Wimberley and supports the Watershed Association’s conservation efforts and the Art4Water program.

Nature enthusiasts, art lovers, and all who are passionate about supporting their local community are encouraged to attend this unique event. Don’t miss the opportunity to listen to incredible local musicians, immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, appreciate the talent of Texas filmmakers, learn from environmental experts, and contribute to the preservation of our precious natural resources at the first annual Wimberley Film Festival.
