Engaged Ecology (Empathy, Emotion, and Planetary Healing) with Vicente Lopes, PhD

In these times of impending ecological disaster and social upheaval, there is
a demand for a deeper root from which to derive sustenance, guidance, and
a wider sense of care and compassion for all living beings who share our
planet with us. In this lecture, we will explore our living connection with
Nature through the lens of Engaged Ecology, a practical as well as visionary
or spiritual perspective that is as ancient as the worship of the Earth
Goddess.

Rejecting the modern materialist and narcissist paradigm that has brought
the Earth to the edge of ecological collapse, Engaged Ecology challenges
core assumptions of mainstream Western thought, positing urgent
philosophical and existential questions such as, how much of the global
crises stem from our limited understanding of “personhood?”
How does humanity fit into the larger Earth community of life? How can we balance
our needs with the needs of other species with whom we share our planet?
